Gilad Shalit’s release in exchange for 1,027 common Terrorist criminals…. Talk about “Disproportionate”! Israel is accused of Disproportionate violence at times of war.

How about praising Israel for “Disproportionate” value of life. That is an honor.

It is undoubtedly a happy event, an event which proudly displays the honor of the Jewish nation and respect for life.

It demonstrates vividly the difference of how life is valued by Israel vs the Terrorist Arab groups like Hamas:

At war time, Israel will do everything to protect her citizens (Jews and Arabs).

Vs.

At war time, Hamas will exploit Israel’s respect for life and use its unarmed citizens as shields for the armed Terrorists to survive and if Israel makes the mistake to injure or kill those unarmed people, Israel will be blamed as the unjust aggressor.

Israel will exchange 1027 Terrorists for the return of one Israeli citizen. THAT is humanity. THAT is respect for life. THAT is a fair Nation. THAT is a civilized Nation.

The other aspect of this event is that, it demonstrates that even between the worst of enemies, even without direct negotiations, there was room for negotiation and actual resolution.

This gives some hope, that one day, there may be a resolution, if and when the Palestinian Authority decides to accept the non-stop calls to come to the negotiating table with Israel. A repeated call, by the European Quartet, the US Administration and by Israel. Whoever wants peace, asks and goes to negotiations.

Whoever wants a resolution makes huge sacrifices….

…and today’s return of Gilad Shalit, is one more proof of Israel’s commitment to peace, life, civility.

Απελευθέρωση του Γκιλάντ Σαλίτ με αντάλλαγμα 1.027 κοινών τρομοκρατών …. Ας μιλήσουμε περί «Δυσαναλογίας»!

Το Ισραήλ κατηγορείται για «δυσανάλογη» βία σε περιόδους πολέμου.

Θα έπρεπε να επαινέσουμε το Ισραήλ για την “δυσανάλογη” αξία που δίνει στη ζωή. Αυτό είναι προς τιμή του Ισραήλ.

Είναι αναμφισβήτητα ένα ευχάριστο γεγονός, ένα γεγονός που παρουσιάζει με υπερηφάνεια την τιμή του εβραϊκού έθνους και του σεβασμού του για τη ζωή.

Δείχνει ανάγλυφα την διαφορά για το πώς η ζωή έχει αξία στο Ισραήλ έναντι των Τρομοκρατικών Αραβικών ομάδων όπως η Χαμάς:

Σε περίοδο πολέμου, το Ισραήλ θα κάνει τα πάντα για να προστατεύσει τους πολίτες της (Εβραίους και Άραβες)
έναντι
Σε περίοδο πολέμου, η Χαμάς θα εκμεταλλευτεί το σεβασμό του Ισραήλ για τη ζωή και χρήσημοποιεί άοπλους πολίτες ως ασπίδες για την επιβίωση των ένοπλων τρομοκρατών και αν το Ισραήλ κάνει το λάθος να τραυματίσει ή να σκοτώσει αυτούς τους άμαχους ανθρώπους, το Ισραήλ θα κατηγορηθεί ως το επιτιθέμενο.

Το Ισραήλ ανταλλάσσει 1.027 τρομοκράτες για την επιστροφή ενός ισραηλινού πολίτη. ΑΥΤΗ είναι η ανθρωπότητα. ΑΥΤΟΣ είναι ο σεβασμός για τη ζωή. ΑΥΤΟ είναι ένα δίκαιο Έθνος. ΑΥΤΟ είναι ένα πολιτισμένο έθνος.

Η άλλη πτυχή αυτού του γεγονότος είναι ότι δείχνει πως ακόμη και μεταξύ των χειροτέρων εχθρών, ακόμη και χωρίς απευθείας διαπραγματεύσεις, υπάρχει χώρος για διαπραγμάτευση και πραγματική λύση.

Αυτό δίνει κάποια ελπίδα, ότι κάποια μέρα, μπορεί να υπάρξει λύση, αν και όταν, η Παλαιστινιακή Αρχή αποφασίσει να δεχτεί τα ασταμάτητα καλέσματα να έρθουν στο τραπέζι των διαπραγματεύσεων με το Ισραήλ. Επαναλαμβανόμενα καλέσματα από το Κουαρτέτο της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης, την κυβέρνηση των ΗΠΑ και το Ισραήλ.

Όποιος θέλει την ειρήνη, ζητά και πηγαίνει στις διαπραγματεύσεις. Όποιος θέλει λύση κάνει τεράστιες θυσίες ….

… Και η σημερινή επιστροφή του Gilad Shalit, είναι μία ακόμη απόδειξη της δέσμευσης του Ισραήλ προς την ειρήνη, τη ζωή, τον πολιτισμό.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Stocks tumbled across the Middle East on Sunday as most regional markets reopened following the historic downgrade of the United States’ credit rating.The region’s markets mostly operate Sunday to Thursday. That meant they were the first to react to credit rating agency Standard & Poor’s decision late Friday to cut the U.S. level one notch to AA+ from its top AAA rating.The only exception is OPEC powerhouse Saudi Arabia, which plunged 5.5 percent when it opened Saturday. It failed to significantly recover Sunday.

“Clearly there’s a negative sentiment prevailing on the global financial markets. We’re seeing a strong contagion effect on our markets,” said Rami Sidani, the Dubai-based head of Middle East investments for British asset management firm Schroders.

The Dubai Financial Market’s benchmark index suffered some of the region’s steepest declines Sunday, tumbling more than 5 percent in early trading. It closed down 3.7 percent at 1,484 points.

While the S&P downgrade weighed on the Dubai market, it was also pulled down by a lower than expected quarterly profit from Arabtec Holding, the Emirati construction giant that helped build the world’s tallest tower in Dubai. Arabtec shares fell 6.3 percent to 1.3 dirhams (35 cents).

S&P’s U.S. cut could shake investor confidence in the world’s largest economy and send tremors coursing through global markets. Traders worldwide are eagerly watching to see how far larger and more liquid markets in Asia and Europe react to the downgrade when they open Monday.

Financial ministers from the Group of Seven leading economies were preparing to hold a teleconference likely before Asian exchanges open to discuss efforts to stabilize world markets.

Other Mideast markets also fell Sunday.

The Abu Dhabi and Qatar market indexes each slumped 2.5 percent.

Egypt’s benchmark EGX30 index fell more than 4 percent. The Egyptian Exchange’s head, Mohammed Abdel-Salam, attributed the slide to declines in world markets rather than the fundamental value of the country’s companies.

Farouk Miah, an analyst at NCB Capital in the Saudi capital Riyadh, said Mideast traders are concerned that debt problems in the West could cut demand for crude and drag on oil-dependent economies in the region.

“There’s a renewed concern about the U.S. debt situation and the European debt situation,” he said. “A lot of people were expecting a downgrade. I think the bigger concern is the oil price falling” because of slumping demand, he added.

If the downgrade drives the value of the dollar lower, big Mideast economies such as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates that peg their currencies to the greenback could also suffer from higher import costs, Miah said.

Saudi Arabia’s stock market was the only one in the region to open Saturday. The Tadawul’s main index edged slightly higher Sunday, creeping up a tenth of a point following the previous day’s rout.

Miah attributed the small uptick to day traders looking to make a quick profit, not a sign of renewed confidence. He expects Mideast markets to slump further if other global markets tumble on the U.S. debt downgrade.

In Israel, the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange delayed the start of the week’s first session after pre-market trade showed the benchmark index dropping more than 6 percent because of concerns over the U.S. debt rating cut.

Exchange spokeswoman Idit Yaaron said the start was pushed back by 45 minutes “so market players will have time to react logically and not under pressure.”

The country’s benchmark TA-25 index plunged 7 percent to close at 1,074 points.

Οι συναλλαγές στο Χρηματιστήριο του Τελ Αβίβ ξανάρχισαν μετά από διακοπή 45 λεπτών λόγω της μεγάλης πτώσης που σημειώθηκε την Κυριακή με αφορμή την υποβάθμιση της πιστοληπτικής ικανότητας των ΗΠΑ από τον οίκο αξιολόγησης Standard & Poor’s, την Παρασκευή.

Σύμφωνα με το ισραηλινό ραδιόφωνο, ο δείκτης TA-100 των εκατό σημαντικότερων εταιρειών υποχωρούσε κατά -6,3% πριν αποφασιστεί η διακοπή. Ο δείκτης TA-25, των 25 εταιρειών υψηλής κεφαλαιοποίησης σημείωσε πτώση -5,5%. Οι μετοχές ορισμένων μεγάλων εταιρειών έχασαν ακόμη και το 10% της αξίας τους ενώ στον κατασκευαστικό τομέα παρατηρήθηκε πτώση -7,4%.

“Το πρωί η πτώση του ΤΑ-25 ξεπέρασε το 5% και έτσι λάβαμε μέτρα”, εξήγησε η εκπρόσωπος του Χρηματιστηρίου, Ίντιτ Γιάαρον.

Σε σοβαρές απώλειες υποχρεώθηκαν την Κυριακή στο σύνολό τους οι χρηματιστηριακές αγορές της Μέσης Ανατολής.

Το χρηματιστήριο της Σαουδικής Αραβίας -το μεγαλύτερο του αραβικού κόσμου- ήταν το πρώτο χρηματιστήριο στο οποίο πραγματοποιήθηκαν συναλλαγές μετά την υποβάθμιση των ΗΠΑ. Υποχώρησε χθες σε χαμηλά πέντε μηνών, με πτώση 5,46%, ενώ σήμερα, Κυριακή, ο γενικός δείκτης έκλεισε με οριακά θετικό πρόσημο.

Στο Ντουμπάι οι συναλλαγές ολοκληρώθηκαν με πτώση 3,69%, ενώ στο γειτονικό Άμπου Ντάμπι ο γενικός δείκτης έκλεισε με απώλειες 2,53%.

Πτωτικά σε ποσοστό 1,61% κινήθηκε το χρηματιστήριο του Κουβέιτ, στο Μπαχρέιν οι απώλειες διαμορφώθηκαν σε 0,33%, ενώ πτωτικά κατά 2,5% κινείται το χρηματιστήριο του Κατάρ. Στο Ομάν οι συναλλαγές ολοκληρώθηκαν με πτώση 2,08%, ενώ σε ποσοστό 4,17% υποχώρησε ο Γενικός Δείκτης στο Κάιρο της Αιγύποτυ.

OSLO (Reuters) – A bomb devastated the main government building in Norway’s capital Oslo Friday, killing two people, and a gunman wounded five people hours later in a shooting at a youth camp, state media reported.

Though the bomb attack was on the very heart of power in the small Nordic state, Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg was safe. There was no claim of responsibility.

“This is very serious,” Stoltenberg told Norwegian TV2 television in a phone call. He added it was too early to say if the blast was a terrorist attack. He said that police had advised him not to say where he was speaking from.

“Even though we have prepared for this type of situation, it is fairly dramatic when it happens,” he added.

As he spoke, reports in local media came through of a shooting incident at Utoeya, an island south of Oslo where Stoltenberg’s Labor party youth section’s yearly gathering was taking place.

Daily newspaper VG said on its website a man dressed as a policeman was shooting wildly and had hit many people.

It was not clear whether or how the incidents were linked.

Στο μεταξύ, την ώρα της έκρηξης, σε κατασκήνωση νεολαίας του κυβερνώντος κόμματος, 50 χιλιόμετρα έξω από τη νορβηγική πρωτεύουσα, άγνωστος – μεταμφιεσμένος ως αστυνομικός – άρχισε να πυροβολεί αδιακρίτως με αυτόματο όπλο προκαλώντας το θάνατο τεσσάρων ανθρώπων και τον τραυματισμό αρκετών.

Στην κατασκήνωση επρόκειτο να μιλήσει το Σάββατο ο πρωθυπουργός.

Το κρατικό ραδιόφωνο της Νορβηγίας αναφέρει ότι στην καταστκήνωση συνελήφθη ένα άτομο.

Ο Γιαν Στόλενμπεργκ χαρακτήρισε την κατάσταση πολύ σοβαρή.

The restive Syrian city of Homs was in a state of mourning on Wednesday, as citizens flocked to funerals for people slain in the streets the day before, an activist told CNN.

But security forces didn’t assault mourners as they had on Tuesday, the activist said. Tension and violence between security forces and demonstrators have plagued the western Syrian city for days. Activists told CNN that a funeral procession Tuesday for slain protesters was attacked by security.

The Local Coordination Committees of Syria said at least 16 people were killed and 33 were wounded on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the activist said, security forces made arrests and raids after the funeral processions ended.

Videos surfacing on the Internet showed mourners marching in the streets. CNN could not independently verify the information. Also Wednesday, Human Rights Watch said Syrian security forces have intensified their campaign of mass arrests in cities that have had anti-government protests.

The cities include Hama, Homs, and suburbs around Damascus, the group said. Citing “reliable activists and witnesses,” it estimated that security forces have arrested more than 2,000 anti-government protesters, medical professionals caring for wounded protesters and people alleged to have given information to international news media and human rights organizations.

“President Assad talks reform but continues to practice repression, not only through the widespread killings of demonstrators but also through mass arrests,” said Sarah Leah Whitson, Middle East director at Human Rights Watch. The Local Coordination Committees, an affiliation of groups that organizes and reports on protests in Syria, estimates that more than 15,000 people arrested since the beginning of the protests remain in detention, HRW said.

“Human Rights Watch has already documented widespread torture from the accounts of people who have been released, causing concern that many detainees still in detention are being tortured,” the group said. Independent accounts of the situation in Syria are hard to come by; most of the international media have been barred from the country.

The unrest in Syria began in mid-March after teens were arrested for writing anti-government graffiti in the southern city of Daraa, according to Amnesty International. As the clashes intensified, demonstrators changed their demands, from calls for freedom and an end to abuses by the security forces to calls for the regime’s overthrow. U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Wednesday called for

“Syrian authorities to stop repression immediately” and said “all sides should refrain from using violence.” He said mass arrests should be halted and President Bashar al-Assad should respond to citizens’ grievances. He repeated the need “for a credible and inclusive dialogue, which should be carried out without delay and be part of a broad and genuine reform effort.”

Την απαγόρευση του απόπλου όλων των πλοίων με ελληνική και ξένη σημαία από τα ελληνικά λιμάνια, με προορισμό τη θαλάσσια περιοχή της Γάζας αποφάσισε ο υπουργός Προστασίας του Πολίτη, Χρήστος Παπουτσής.

Όπως αναφέρεται σε ανακοίνωση του υπουργείου, η οποία εκδόθηκε στα ελληνικά και τα αγγλικά, «το Αρχηγείο του Λιμενικού Σώματος-Ελληνικής Ακτοφυλακής με διαταγή του στις Λιμενικές Αρχές λαμβάνει όλα τα κατάλληλα μέτρα για την εφαρμογή της απόφασης».

Στην ανακοίνωση σημειώνεται πως «όπως είναι γνωστό έχουν ήδη δοθεί εντολές στις Λιμενικές Αρχές της χώρας για την επίδοση στους πλοιάρχους των πλοίων ανεξαρτήτως σημαίας της σχετικής Αγγελίας προς Ναυτιλλομένους, στην οποία προσδιορίζεται ο θαλάσσιος χώρος ναυτικού αποκλεισμού από το Ισραήλ».

H απόφαση της ελληνικής κυβέρνησης εξόργισε και απογοήτευσε τα μέλη του Στολίσκου της Ελευθερίας. «Φαίνεται ότι η ισραηλινή κυβέρνηση επεκτείνει τον αποκλεισμό και στην Ελλάδα», σχολιάζει ο Ντρόρ Φάιλερ, Σουηδός γεννημένος στο Ισραήλ, μουσικός και ακτιβιστής, ο οποίος είχε πάρει μέρος και στον περσινή αποστολή. «Φαίνεται ότι οι πιέσεις που ασκήθηκαν σε οικονομικό και διπλωματικό επίπεδο έπιασαν τόπο» συμπληρώνει.

Την Πέμπτη ο πρωθυπουργός του Ισραήλ Μπενιαμίν Νετανιάχου ευχαρίστησε τους ηγέτες, μεταξύ τους και τον πρωθυπουργό Γιώργο Παπανδρέου, που τάχθηκαν κατά της οργάνωσης του διεθνούς στολίσκου ανθρωπιστικής βοήθειας προς την Γάζα.

«Ευχαριστώ τους πολλούς ηγέτες του κόσμου που τάχθηκαν κατά του στολίσκου χαρακτηρίζοντάς τον ως ‘πρόκληση’ και εργάστηκαν κατά της διοργάνωσής του» δήλωσε ο κ. Νετανιάχου, κατά την διάρκεια τελετής για την απονομή των νέων βαθμών των πιλότων.

Πρόσθεσε δε ότι «ευχαριστώ ιδιαίτερα τις ΗΠΑ, την Ευρώπη και τον Γενικό Γραμματέα του ΟΗΕ, καθώς και τον φίλο μου τον Έλληνα πρωθυπουργό.

Εν τω μεταξύ, τα μέλη της οργάνωσης «Ένα Καράβι για τη Γάζα» κατήγγειλαν σαμποτάζ σε ένα από τα πλοία του στολίσκου και το αποδίδουν σε μυστικές υπηρεσίες. Συγκεκριμένα, στο εν λόγω πλοίο είχαν καταστραφεί οι δύο άξονες των προπελών των μηχανών του πλοίου.

It is very interesting that a year later, it is now widely accepted and proved that Mavi Marmara actually did have on board Terrorist elements ready to kill innocent people.

It is also interesting that about a week or so ago, Mr. Goldstone himself admitted that his report on the Israeli operation in Gaza was highly biased, with the majority of it being untrue. Now moves are taking place at the United Nations which will officially declare the Goldstone Report as non-valid.

History justifies Israel… again.

Είναι ενδιαφέρον πως μετά από ένα χρόνο, το Μάβι Μαρμαρά έχει αποδειχθεί ότι πραγματικά είχε Τρομοκράτες.

Επίσης είναι πολυ ενδιαφέρoν που πριν μία εβδομάδα περίπου ο ίδιος ο Goldstone παραδέχθηκε ότι η έκθεσή του, για την Επιχείρηση του Ισραήλ στην Γάζα, ήταν λαθος και τώρα γίνονται κινήσεις για την επίσημη ακύρωση της Έκθεσης Goldstone στα Ηνωμένα Έθνη.

Η ιστορία επικυρώνει το Ισραήλ…πάλι.

Bigotry against Jewish students has occurred on University of California campuses over many years and on many campuses. Jewish students have been subjected to: swastikas; acts of physical aggression; speakers, films and exhibits that use anti-Semitic imagery and discourse; speakers that praise and encourage support for terrorist organizations; the organized disruption of events sponsored by Jewish student groups; and most recently the promotion of student senate resolutions for divestment from Israel that seek to demonize and delegitimize the Jewish State.

Last May, more than 700 Jewish UC students signed a petition expressing outrage at anti-Jewish rhetoric and imagery on their campuses. They asserted that these incidents are as offensive and hurtful to Jewish students as a “Compton cookout” or a noose are to African American students.

In addition, dozens of Jewish students from three different UC campuses, who responded to an on-line questionnaire, described feeling harassed and intimidated by the promotion of hatred against the Jewish State and of Jews. Almost all of the students felt that the administrators on their campuses did not treat Jewish concerns as sensitively as they did the concerns of other minorities such as African Americans and Latinos.

In June 2010, leaders of 12 Jewish organizations, including the Orthodox Union and the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, wrote (http://octaskforce.wordpress.com/2010/06/28/2575) to UC President Mark Yudof, expressing their concerns about the hostile (http://www.commentarymagazine.com/article/a-blind-eye-to-campus-anti-semitism) environment faced by Jewish students on UC campuses, and calling on him to address this serious problem immediately. President Yudof responded by asking Jewish leaders to have patience and faith in the newly-established Advisory Councils on Campus Climate, Culture, and Inclusion.

Over the last year, however, these Advisory Councils have failed to address, or even acknowledge, the problem of anti-Semitism on UC campuses. In fact, the aims and actions of the Advisory Councils since their inception, as revealed by documents released under a Freedom of Information request, show that Jewish students are not a focus at all.

In an effort to convey to President Yudof the deep concern that members of the California Jewish community feel for the well-being of Jewish students, and their distress that the harassment and intimidation of Jewish students have not been addressed by UC administrators in a substantive way, we have created the AMCHA Initiative. AMCHA is the Hebrew word meaning “Your People” and also connotes “grassroots,” “the masses,” and “ordinary people.” It is our goal to bring together Jewish people from all over California so
that they might speak in one voice, united in their concern for the safety of Jewish students on UC campuses.

Jewish students, like all students, should be guaranteed a campus environment that is safe and conducive to learning.

“Moderate” Muslims! – “Μετριοπαθής” Μουσουλμάνα!

I received the following email and video from one of the blog’s commentators. It’s an eye-opener.

You may say that this is a gross generalization of the Muslim people and it is simply a unique, fringe occurrence. Well,.. I would say: yes, it is one additional of the many unique occurrences. Let’s not forget she is representing and talking on behalf of an organization, the MSA.

When the young lady starts asking her question she refers to MSA. This stands for Muslim Student Association.

If you have had doubts exactly where the “Moderate”, “Educated”, Muslims stand on terrorism, you must do yourself a huge service and watch, and listen, to this video of a live exchange between Dr. David Horowitz and a “Moderate Muslim” student at the University of California in San Diego.

Listen to her answer when he finally forces her in the end to answer his question as to whether or not she supports terrorism.

Then do this nation a huge service and pass this on to everyone on your email address list, urging them to do the same.

Έλαβα το παρακάτω email και βίντεο από τον σχολιαστή «Λεωνίδας». Μας ανοίγει τα μάτια.

Ίσως μου πείτε ότι γενικεύουμε και πως αυτό είναι μία μοναδική ακραία περίπτωση. Μμμμ, εγώ θα έλεγα «ναι,… ακόμα μία από τις πολλές ακραίες περιπτώσεις». Ας μην ξεχνάμε, αντιπροσωπεύει και μιλά εκ μέρους ενός Οργανισμού, του MSA (Μουσουλμανικού Φοιτητικού Συλλόγου).

Όταν η νεαρή κοπέλα ξεκινά με την ερώτησή της, αναφέρεται στην MSA. Αυτό σημαίνει Μουσουλμανικός Φοιτητικός Σύλλογος.

Αν είχατε αμφιβολίες για το ακριβώς ποιά είναι η θέση των «Μετριοπαθών», “μορφωμένων”, Μουσουλμάνων απέναντη στην τρομοκρατία, πρέπει να παρακολουθήσετε, και να ακούσετε, σε αυτό το βίντεο τον διάλογο μεταξύ του Δρ David Horowitz και μια “μετριοπαθής Μουσουλμάνας» φοιτήτριας στο Πανεπιστήμιο της Καλιφόρνια στο Σαν Ντιέγκο.

A recent high-school graduate has no appetite for further University education. The father of the young man, a wealthy politician with great power in the government, threatens his son: You don’t want to study? Well I do not maintain losers, so you WILL work, is that understood?

Using his strong economic and political position the father pulls the strings to find a job for his son.

Father: Hey, Mrs, eeh I’m sorry, Senator (you’ve earned it!) Boxer (our dear CA Senator), remember my son? Well, he finished high school and he does not want to go to College. Could you find him a job to start working, while in the meantime he decides what to do with his future?

The idea is to find something that will make him work hard, not sit and do nothing… Understand?

A few days later Boxer reports that the job is ready for your son. Private Assistant to the President and $20,000 per month. Isn’t this great?

This is excessive. We have to start him lower, with such a salary he will become more lazy than he is now.

Next day Boxer: I found something more modest. Private Secretary to a Senator. The salary is more modest, only $10,000 per month.

Noooooo Boxer. He just graduated from high school. I do not want his life to be so easy right away. I want him to feel the need to continue his education, understand?

The next day: I found him a job as Purchasing Manager at the Department Communications and his salary is only $6,000 per month.

But PLEASE Mrs Boxer, find me something more modest, something in the $600 to $700 per month.

-Boxer: What are you talking about, this is impossible.
-Why???
- Boxer: Because these position are only given after a rigorous competition, interview process and he needs to have excellent resume with perfect communication skills, University degree, at least a Masters or PHD, willing to work overtime without pay, and of course prior experience. My friend these $600 positions are not easy to find and get.

Ένας νέος τελειώνει το Λύκειο και δεν έχει καθόλου όρεξη για Πανεπιστήμιο. Ο πατέρας του νέου, πλούσιος πολιτικός με μεγάλη δύναμη στην κυβέρνηση, απειλεί τον γιο του: Δεν θέλεις να σπουδάσεις ρε τεμπελόσκυλο; Λοιπόν εγώ δεν συντηρώ κοπρίτες, γι’ αυτό και θα δουλέψεις, κατάλαβες;

Έχοντας την ισχυρή οικονομική και πολιτική θέση ο πατέρας κινεί τα νήματα για να βρει μία θέση στον γιο του.

Πατέρας: Παπακωνσταντίνου (Υπουργός), θυμάσαι τον γιο μου; Λοιπόν, τέλειωσε το λύκειο και ο τεμπέλης δεν θέλει να σπουδάσει. Θα μπορούσες να του βρεις μια θέση να αρχίσει να δουλεύει, μήπως εν τω μεταξύ βρει το δρόμο του και αποφασίσει να σπουδάσει;

Το θέμα είναι να βρεθεί κάτι που θα τον κάνει να δουλέψει σκληρά, να μήν κάθεται και τα ξύνει… κατάλαβες;

Μερικές μέρες αργότερα ο Παπακωσταντίνου λέει: έτοιμη η δουλειά για τον γιο σου. Δεξί χέρι του Προέδρου της Δημοκρατίας και 20.000 ευρώ το μήνα, τέλεια έτσι;

-Τι λε ρε Παπακωνσταντίνου, αυτό είναι υπερβολικό. Πρέπει να τον αρχίσουμε πιο χαμηλά, και με τέτοια τρελλά λεφτά αυτός ο τεμπέλης θα γίνει χειρότερος.

Παπακωνσταντίνου: Φίλε του βρήκα κάτι πιο σεμνό. Ιδιαίτερος Γραμματέας Υπουργού. Ο μισθός είναι πιο σεμνός, μόνο 10.000 ευρώ το μήνα.

Lebanese leaders referred to Israeli “aggression” — a “violation of Lebanese sovereignty” in which an Israeli patrol crossed into Lebanon to trim trees despite orders from UN peacekeepers to stop.

Israeli leaders described it as an “ambush” — a “gross violation”, “murderous attack” and “violent provocation” initiated in response to “routine maintenance duties” and “with no provocation from our territory.”

The rhetoric on both sides of the ‘blue line’ separating Lebanon and Israel is alive and wild, and while the UN has confirmed that the tree in question was indeed on the Israeli side of the border, and that Israel coordinated its trimming with the UN, the exact series of events that triggered the deaths of an Israeli battalion commander, three Lebanese soldiers and a journalist on Tuesday is unlikely to be cleared up anytime soon.

What is clear, however, is that in a matter of weeks Lebanon is set to face what some local analysts are predicting will be the beginnings of another Lebanese civil war and which others are predicting will be the largest political crisis since the country’s former leader was assassinated five years ago.

Either way, they agree, something smelly is about to hit the fan.

On February 14, 2005, Lebanon’s former Prime Minister Rafiq Al-Hariri and 22 others were killed by a massive 1000 kilogram TNT explosion on the Beirut seafront.

The assassination was followed by an extensive international outcry and led to massive political change in Lebanon, culminating in the withdrawal of Syrian troops after 29 years in the country.

The late Al-Hariri opposed the Syrian presence in Lebanon and supported the disarming of Hizbullah, a Lebanese Shia militia more powerful than the Lebanese army. The Al-Hariri murder has been widely blamed on elements from Hizbullah and/or Syrian intelligence.

The UN Special Tribunal for Lebanon, based in The Hague, has been investigating the assassination for years and has yet to issue any indictments. But Hizbullah’s leader, Sheikh Sayyid Hasan Na’srallah, announced last month that the tribunal was set to indict Hizbullah members in the assassination.

The Shia militia’s powerful political wing currently sits on a governing coalition along with the U.S.-backed, Sunni-led Future Movement headed by Sa’ad Al-Hariri, son of the slain Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Al-Hariri.

Lebanese analysts say the possibility of the prime minister’s governing partners being accused by an international court of assassinating his father, the country’s former leader, has created a state of a political instability and bedlam.

“I think what happened yesterday at the border is a reflection of the situation in the region,” Fadi Abi Allam, President of the Beirut-based Permanent Peace Movement told The Media Line. “We are in a state of war – both within Lebanon and outside – and everyone trying to protect themselves, so there is a real escalation of tensions.”

“The issue is not just Palestine, we are in a state of war here in Lebanon itself,” Allam continued. “The Al-Hariri assassination is a big issue. To date, there is no solution from the international community and everybody is waiting to see what will happen and how this will affect internal politics and the situation in Israel.”

“Leaders from all over the world are all coming to Lebanon because they are all afraid of what is about to happen here,” he said. “Lebanese people do not want a civil war but who knows. Nobody can say yes or no; all I can say is there is a real risk: War could come at anytime.”

Since Na’srallah announced the probability that Hizbullah members will be indicted in the assassination, Syrian President Bashar Al-Asad; Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah; and a number of other Arab leaders have all made 11th hour visits to Beirut to try calm the situation.

“Both Syria and Saudi Arabia are trying to keep the lid on what might happen when Hezbollah is implicated,” Dr Eugène Richard Sensenig-Dabbous, a political scientist at Lebanon’s Notre Dame University told The Media Line. “Things are very tense, but it seems that nobody wants violence.”

“At the moment we have a grand coalition which includes Hizbullah,” he said. “If Hizbullah is accused of assassinating the former prime minister, then how can all the parties stay at the table with someone who assassinated our leader? It’s almost impossible.”

On Tuesday, Na’srallah attempted to deflect the potential damage of a U.N. indictment of Hizbullah members by openly accusing Israel of the 2005 assassination in a pre-recorded message claiming that Israeli agents arranged the Al-Hariri killing in order to exploit Lebanon’s Sunni – Shia tensions. Evidence to back up such claims, Na’srallah said, will be presented at a press conference on Monday.

Dr Sensenig-Dabbous argued that while most in Lebanon see the writing on the wall, and realize that Hizbullah members are likely to be indicted, they hope for the best.

“Everyone suspected from the beginning that Syria and Hizbullah knew about it and were possibly involved, but there are taboos in this country, and you don’t criticize Hizbullah,” he said. “Most people in Lebanon don’t want it to be true, so I think there is a bit of wishful thinking.”

The professor said that any attempt to blame the murder on rogue elements within Hizbullah would not work.

“If Na’srallah was responsible, that’s bad,” he said. “But if Na’srallah was not responsible that’s even worse, because it means that the leader of Lebanon’s only armed faction does not have control over his own men. It would mean that Hizbullah is not solidified and that the leadership cannot deliver in any future peace deal between Syria, Hizbullah and Israel.”

But Sari Hanafi, a political economist at the American University in Beirut, was more optimistic.

“I’m not sure what will happen,” he told The Media Line. “It will depend on the actors involved, but both main players – the Future Movement and Hizbullah – don’t want to escalate and want to put this issue into the drawer. So I am rather optimistic and I don’t think this will break the coalition — never mind cause another civil war.”

There is also the People’s Mujahedin of Iran (MEK) a known opponent of the regime which has been responsible for a number of attacks in recent years against the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps.

It is likely for this reason that Iran officially denied that Ahmadinejad was the target of an assassination attempt in order to put on appearances that the country is united and not one is against the Islamic regime.

Οι Λιβανέζοι ηγέτες ανέφεραν μία ισραηλινή «επίθεση» – μια «παραβίαση της κυριαρχίας του Λιβάνου», στην οποία μια ισραηλινή περίπολος πέρασε στον Λίβανο για να κόψει τα δέντρα παρά τις εντολές των ειρηνευτικών δυνάμεων του ΟΗΕ να σταματήσει.

Οι Ισραηλινοί ηγέτες την περιέγραψαν ως «ενέδρα» – μια «σοβαρή παραβίαση», «δολοφονική επίθεση» και «βίαιη πρόκληση» που ξεκίνησε ως απάντηση στα «συνήθη καθήκοντα συντήρησης” και “χωρίς καμία προβοκάτσια από το έδαφός μας».

Τα σκληρά λόγια και στις δύο πλευρές της «μπλε γραμμής» που χωρίζει το Λίβανο και το Ισραήλ είναι ζωντανά και άγρια, και ενώ ο ΟΗΕ έχει επιβεβαιώσει ότι το εν λόγω δέντρο ήταν πράγματι στην Ισραηλινή πλευρά των συνόρων, καθώς και ότι το Ισραήλ είχε συντονίσει την εργασία κοπής των δένδρων με τον ΟΗΕ, η ακριβής σειρά των γεγονότων που προκάλεσαν τον θάνατο ενός Ισραηλινού διοικητή τάγματος, τρεις στρατιώτες του Λιβάνου και ένα δημοσιογράφο την Τρίτη είναι απίθανο να ξεκαθαριστεί σύντομα.

Αυτό που είναι σαφές, ωστόσο, είναι ότι μέσα σε λίγες εβδομάδες ο Λίβανος βρέθηκε να αντιμετωπίζει αυτό που ορισμένοι τοπικοί αναλυτές προβλέπουν θα είναι η απαρχή ενός νέου Λιβανικού εμφύλιου πολέμου και άλλοι προβλέπουν ότι θα είναι η μεγαλύτερη πολιτική κρίση από τότε που πρώην ηγέτης της χώρας δολοφονήθηκε πριν από πέντε χρόνια.

Είτε έτσι είτε αλλιώς, συμφωνούν, κάτι πολύ επικίνδυνο ψήνεται.

Στις 14 Φεβρουαρίου 2005, ο πρώην πρωθυπουργός του Λιβάνο Rafiq Al-Hariri και 22ακόμη άτομα σκοτώθηκαν από έκρηξη 1000 κιλών εκρηκτικών στην παραλία της Βηρυτού.

Η δολοφονία αυτή ακολούθησε μια εκτεταμένη διεθνή κατακραυγή και οδήγησε σε μαζικές πολιτικές αλλαγές στο Λίβανο, με αποκορύφωμα την αποχώρηση των Συριακών στρατευμάτων μετά από 29 χρόνια στη χώρα.

Ο συγχωρεμένος Al Hariri αντιτάχθηκε στη Συριακή παρουσία στον Λίβανο και υποστήριξε τον αφοπλισμό της Χεζμπολάχ, που είναι Λιβανέζοι μιλιταριστές Σιιτών, πιο ισχυροί και από το στρατό του Λιβάνου. Η δολοφονία του Al Hariri έχει ευρέως κατηγορηθεί σε δυνάμεις της Χεζμπολάχ ή/και της Συριακής κατασκοπείας.

Το Ειδικό Δικαστήριο το ΟΗΕ για τον Λίβανο, με έδρα τη Χάγη, ερευνά τη δολοφονία εδώ και χρόνια και έχει ακόμη να προβεί σε κάποιες διώξεις. Αλλά ο ηγέτης της Χεζμπολάχ, σεΐχης Hasan Sayyid Na’srallah, ανακοίνωσε τον περασμένο μήνα ότι το δικαστήριο είχε οριστεί να κατηγορήσει μέλη της Χεζμπολάχ για την δολοφονία.

Η ισχυρή πολιτική πτέρυγα της πολιτοφυλακής των Σιιτών βρίσκεται σήμερα στην κυβέρνηση συνασπισμού μαζί με την υποστηριζόμενη από τις ΗΠΑ, σουνιτική ηγεσία «Κινήματος του Μέλλοντος» με επικεφαλής τον Sa’ad Al Hariri, γιο του δολοφονηθέντος Πρωθυπουργού του Λιβάνου Ραφίκ Αλ-Χαρίρι.

Αναλυτές του Λιβάνου λένε ότι η πιθανότητα που διέπουν τους εταίρους του πρωθυπουργού να κατηγορηθούν από ένα διεθνές δικαστήριο για τη δολοφονία του πατέρα του, πρώην ηγέτη της χώρας, έχει δημιουργήσει μια κατάσταση πολιτικής αστάθειας και φασαρίας.

“Νομίζω ότι αυτό που συνέβη χθες στα σύνορα είναι μια αντανάκλαση της κατάστασης στην περιοχή,” είπε ο Fadi Abi Aλlam, ο Πρόεδρος του Κινήματος «διαρκή ειρήνη» στην Βηρυτό. «Βρισκόμαστε σε μια κατάσταση πολέμου – τόσο εντός όσο και εκτός Λιβάνου – και όλοι προσπαθούν να προστατεύσουν τον εαυτό τους, έτσι υπάρχει μια πραγματική κλιμάκωση των εντάσεων”.

«Το θέμα δεν είναι μόνο η Παλαιστίνη, είμαστε σε εμπόλεμη κατάσταση εδώ μέσα στον ίδιο το Λίβανο». «Η δολοφονία του Al Hariri είναι ένα μεγάλο ζήτημα. Μέχρι σήμερα, δεν υπάρχει λύση από τη διεθνή κοινότητα και όλοι περιμένουν να δουν τι θα συμβεί και πώς αυτό θα επηρεάσει την εσωτερική πολιτική και την κατάσταση στο Ισραήλ. “

“Οι ηγέτες από όλο τον κόσμο, έρχονται όλοι στο Λίβανο, επειδή όλοι φοβούνται για το τι πρόκειται να συμβεί εδώ», είπε. «Ο λαός του Λιβάνου δεν θέλει έναν εμφύλιο πόλεμο, αλλά ποιος ξέρει. Κανείς δεν μπορεί να πει ναι ή όχι? Το μόνο που μπορώ να πω είναι ότι υπάρχει πραγματικός κίνδυνος: Ο πόλεμος θα μπορούσε να έρθει οποιαδήποτε στιγμή. “

Δεδομένου ότι Na’srallah ανακοίνωσε την πιθανότητα ότι μέλη της Hizbullah να κατηγορηθούν για την δολοφονία, ο Πρόεδρος της Συρίας Bashar Al-Asad, της Σαουδικής Αραβίας ο βασιλιάς Abdullah, και μια σειρά άλλων Αράβων ηγετών έχουν όλοι κάνει επισκέψεις την τελευταία στιγμή στη Βηρυτό για να προσπαθήσουν να ηρεμήσουν την κατάσταση.

“Αυτή τη στιγμή έχουμε ένα μεγάλο συνασπισμό που περιλαμβάνει τη Χεζμπολάχ”, είπε. “Εάν η Χεζμπολάχ κατηγορείται για τη δολοφονία του πρώην πρωθυπουργού, τότε πώς μπορούν όλα τα κόμματα να μείνουν στο τραπέζι με κάποιον ο οποίος δολοφόνησε τον ηγέτης μας; Είναι σχεδόν αδύνατο.»

Την Τρίτη, ο Na’srallah προσπάθησε να αποτρέψει την πιθανή ζημία του κατηγορητήριου των Ηνωμένων Εθνών για τα μέλη της Χεζμπολάχ με το να κατηγορεί ανοιχτά το Ισραήλ για τη δολοφονία του 2005 σε ένα προ-ηχογραφημένο μήνυμα υποστηρίζοντας ότι Ισραηλινοί πράκτορες διοργάνωσαν την δολοφονία του Al Hariri, ώστε να εκμεταλευτούν τις εντάσεις μεταξύ στους Σουνίτες και Σιίτες του Λιβάνου. Στοιχεία για την υποστήριξη τέτοιων κατηγοριών, είπε ο Na’srallah, θα παρουσιαστούν σε συνέντευξη Τύπου τη Δευτέρα.

Ο Dr Sensenig-Dabbous υποστήριξε ότι ενώ η πλειοψηφία στο Λίβανο βλέπει ξεκάθαρα ότι μέλη της Χεζμπολάχ θα κατηγορηθούν, ελπίζουνε για το καλύτερο.

«Όλοι υποπτεύθηκαν από την αρχή ότι η Συρία και η Χεζμπολάχ ήξερε γι ‘αυτό και ήταν πιθανώς εμπλεκόμενοι, αλλά υπάρχουν θέματα ταμπού στη χώρα αυτή, και δεν κάνεις κριτική στην Χεζμπολάχ”, είπε. «Οι περισσότεροι άνθρωποι στο Λίβανο, δεν θέλουμε να είναι αλήθεια, έτσι όμως νομίζω ότι αυτό είναι απλά μία ονειρεμένη ευχή.»

Ο καθηγητής είπε ότι οποιαδήποτε προσπάθεια να κατηγορήσουν για τη δολοφονία κάποια αδέσποτα στοιχεία εντός της Χεζμπολάχ δεν θα λειτουργούσε.

«Αν ο Na’srallah ήταν υπεύθυνος, αυτό είναι κακό», είπε. «Αλλά αν ο Na’srallah δεν ήταν υπεύθυνος, αυτό είναι ακόμα χειρότερο, διότι σημαίνει ότι ο ηγέτης της μοναδικής ένοπλης παράταξης του Λιβάνου δεν έχει τον έλεγχο επί των δικών της ανδρών. Θα σήμαινε ότι η Χεζμπολάχ δεν έχει στερερότητα και ότι η ηγεσία δεν μπορεί να συνεισφέρει σε κάποια μελλοντική ειρηνευτική συμφωνία μεταξύ της Συρίας, της Χεζμπολάχ και του Ισραήλ.»

Αλλά ο Sari Hanafi, ένας πολιτικός οικονομολόγος στο American University στη Βηρυτό, ήταν πιο αισιόδοξος.

Υπάρχει, επίσης οι Μουτζαχεντίν του Λαού του Ιράν (MEK), μια γνωστή αντίπαλος του καθεστώτος που ήταν υπεύθυνη για πολλές επιθέσεις στην διάρκεια των τελευταίων ετών έναντι της Ιρανικής Επαναστατικής Φρουράς.

Είναι πιθανόν, για το λόγο αυτό, ότι το Ιράν αρνήθηκε επισήμως ότι ο Αχμαντινετζάντ ήταν ο στόχος μιας απόπειρας δολοφονίας, προκειμένου να δώσει την εικόνα ότι η χώρα είναι ενωμένη και όχι ότι είναι εναντίον του ισλαμικού καθεστώτος.
